Redding

Redding is primarily a residential town that has done an exceptional job of conserving its large estates and accumulating town owned land in an effort to maintain its rural feel and integrity, for the enjoyment of its citizenry. Walking trails abound, as do parks and open space. Incorporated in 1776, Redding attained Revolutionary War significance with Putnam Park Memorial and Park dedicated to the American troops. Once the home of Mark Twain, it is now home to other noted writers, authors, musicians, and actors. Only 55 miles from New York City, Redding was voted #1 small town in Connecticut by Connecticut Magazine for 2005. Occupying approximately 32 square miles, with a population in the 8,700 range, Redding has its own train station, library which sponsors art sales and other events, Community Center offering activities for all age groups, Redding Country Club for socializing and golf, New Pond Farm an environmental nature center, plus much more.
With one elementary school and one middle school, Redding shares its High School with the town of Easton. Predominately an area of single family homes, there are a limited number of condominiums and multifamily homes. Comprised of the four sections West Redding, Town Center, Redding Ridge, and Georgetown, Redding awaits the Gilbert and Bennett Wire Mill renovation. Much anticipated, the project will bring new housing options to Georgetown. | |
