Bethel
|
Surrounded by the towns of Redding, Danbury, Brookfield and Newtown, Bethel is located in Northern Fairfield County. Established in 1855, it was originally part of Danbury and much of its early prosperity can be attributed to the hat industry. Bethel continues to have a commercial component which contributes to its economy. Once the home of P. T. Barnum, Bethel has lively town center. Offering fabulous ice cream, bakery, antique shops and other specialty shops, the town retains its Historic charm.
Governed by a Board of Selectmen, Bethel has a Park and Recreation Department, Senior Center and Social Services Department to service its citizens. Its five schools, K-12, are located on one campus, the David Deakin Educational Park. Occupying approximately 17 square miles, the population is in the 18,000 range. |
